Miss Universe 2025 Fatima Bosch Faces Criminal Complaint Over Thailand Incident
Miss Grand International (MGI) owner and founder Nawat Itsaragrisil has filed criminal charges against Miss Universe 2025 Fatima Bosch Fernandez of Mexico following a controversial incident during the pageant in Thailand.
The complaint stems from a heated confrontation that occurred on November 4, 2025, between the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) and Fatima during the 74th Miss Universe competition at a hotel in Thailand.
The Controversial Incident
Nawat, who serves as vice-president for Asia and Oceania of MUO and owns the Miss Universe Thailand franchise, allegedly confronted Fatima during a sashing ceremony. According to viral social media videos, the incident took place in the hotel ballroom where Nawat reportedly berated and embarrassed Fatima in front of other contestants.
The confrontation arose when Fatima missed a sponsor shoot but participated in a video shoot for Telemundo, the American-Spanish broadcast network that airs the Miss Universe pageant. This scheduling conflict reportedly triggered tensions between Nawat and the Mexican representative.
During the heated exchange, Nawat allegedly made disparaging remarks about Raul Rocha, the national director of Miss Universe Mexico. The situation escalated when Fatima walked out of the venue, accompanied by several contestants who supported her.
Competing Claims Over What Was Said
In interviews with pageant fans, Fatima claimed Nawat disrespected her during the incident. "I truly love Thailand. I have so much respect for all of you, and I believe you are amazing people. But what your director, Nawat, just did was not respectful," she stated.
"He called me 'dumb' because of his issue with the organization, and I think that's unfair. I believe the world needs to hear and see this, because we are all empowered women," Fatima added.
However, on December 2, Nawat issued an official statement through the Miss Universe Thailand Facebook page and Miss Grand International Public Company Ltd., vehemently denying these allegations.
Legal Action and Defamation Claims
"We wish to reaffirm that Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil never called Ms. Fatima Bosch a 'dumbhead.' What he said was 'damage,' which is clearly audible in the voice recordings that have already been widely circulated across various platforms," the statement read.
According to Nawat's camp, he said: "If you follow the order from your national director you're damage, if you not you can do it. I very happy and the good report will go to organize..."
The statement accused Fatima of making "false accusations" immediately after walking out and continuing to "defame" Nawat in multiple interviews, even after being crowned Miss Universe.
"Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil has formally filed a criminal complaint against Ms. Fatima Bosch Fernandez in Thailand on November 12, 2025," the statement confirmed.
Ongoing Controversy
The legal filing warns that additional action may be taken if further "defamatory actions" are discovered. Nawat's team also cautioned media outlets against amplifying what they termed "false allegations," threatening legal action against news organizations that do so.
As of this writing, Fatima's representatives have not responded to Nawat's official statement or the criminal complaint filed against her in Thailand.
This incident has cast a shadow over what should have been a celebratory moment for the newly crowned Miss Universe, highlighting ongoing tensions within the international pageant community and raising questions about conduct standards during these high-profile competitions.
